Samantha Richards
Hi
My name is Samantha. I worked as a Cancer Specialist Nurse until a car accident in March 2019.
I was diagnosed with PTSD and FND (Functional Neurological Disorder) in March 2020 as a result of my injuries.
Sadly due to the deterioration in my condition I had to retire from a job I truly loved.
The only comparison between Nursing and FND is that no 2 days are the same.
I am now in a rehabilitation center, arriving unable to walk, speak properly and have regular seizures, naming just a few symptoms. FND is very disabling and very similar to MS and Parkinson’s.
I have been in rehab for 4 months this year and can now walk using walking sticks for 3 minutes.
Prior to the accident I loved running and completed marathons. I also enjoyed tough mudders and events such as dirty dozen.
Whilst FND has completely changed my life I don’t want it to beat me. I plan to walk 5k on my 40+ birthday on 16/02/22.
Whilst it doesn’t sound far I currently only have 40% strength in my left leg and only able to walk 3 minutes a day.
I also plan to climb Scafell Pike.
So I am sure you can appreciate the physical challenge at hand…….
I want to raise vital funds for Rock 2 Recovery so please give generously
