Bring the Hunts Home - led by Adrian Warrender
WHY ROCK2RECOVERY?
After losing two close friends to suicide (both military - one was serving RM and one was retired from the RN), a member was conversing with fellow colleagues about why neither of those friends had reached out. A colleague highlighted that as military personnel we/they are too proud to speak to their friends & family, and another individual talked about the help available from organisations such as ROCK2RECOVERY (R2R). We all then chatted about what was out there and what individuals can expect to receive in way of support.
On preparing to deploy with the Mine Warfare Battle Staff (MWBS) we were asked to look at charities for which we could conduct a challenge and raise money & awareness for. Remembering the name R2R I then reached out to Carlie (R2R Office Manager & Head of Events) who then explained what they do and how we could assist in their mission.
As such the MWBS intention is to raise money & awareness to assist in the changing of lives of those in our Armed Forces, our veteran community and their families who are affected by stress-related issues.
Carry the MCMV Home from Bahrain to Portsmouth
As we are over halfway through the deployment we have chosen a two-part target to achieve. The FIRST part is to run, walk, row or bike the distance from Bahrain to Portsmouth, since Bahrain has been our main deployed location & since Portsmouth is our UK base. The distance between both locations is 3181 miles – this works at 107 miles a day, which is between 8 – 11 miles daily per person.
The SECOND part of the challenge is to carry two of our Ships, and we’ve chosen the Hunt class Mine Counter Measures Vessels who specialise in finding and destroying mines and underwater explosive hazards. These ships each weigh 750,000kg (750 tons), giving a total of 1,500,000kg. Within the challenge time we’ve set, this is a daily weight of 50,000kg (50 tons), which will work out at 3500-5000kg daily for each participant.
