RTYO 2022
On the 19th of March 2021 Sam Parkinson, a hugely talented and popular former Royal Marine passed away. Sam had been suffering with his Mental health. Sam always struggled to see himself the way the rest of the world saw him. A hugely talented, beautiful individual who was taken way to soon.
In April 2021 I set out to run the distance from my Home to Sam’s in Southampton 177 miles giving myself 31 days to complete the challenge. I named this event Run to your oppo.
OPPO
( O – POE )
Noun
Friend. Comrade. A “Bessie oppo” is a best friend. Derives from “opposite” i.e.,
“opposite number” as in “beside” or “next to”
Sam was my oppo and I wanted to make the point that if he had told me he needed me I would have gone to him no matter what the distance or how hard it was to get there.
Suicide is still the biggest killer of men under 50 and therefore more needs to be done to help those who are suffering.
This year I knew I had to go bigger and better and that’s exactly what I am going to do.
Last year I ran 177 miles in 1 month.
This year I plan to run it in 1 WEEK !
