Matt Cowling - 100,000 Metre Row
The Pandemic has taken an unprecedented toll on the nation, with significant sufferance, austerity and anxiety over what will happen next. There can’t be many or any, that haven’t been personally affected by Covid 19 whether in a small or significant manner. Yet, throughout all of this and whilst carrying their own individual burdens, Men and Women of the British Armed Forces and Emergency Services have stepped up yet again and delivered.
As a Police Sergeant I have witnessed incredible team work in delivering major logistical events to ensure our communities remain safe, I have witnessed first hand the sheer exhaustion and breaking point on the faces of our NHS staff, yet shared humour at the darkest of times, and stood side by side with our armed forces delivering the millions of vaccines required to ensure our nation is safe.
I have also seen the effect this burden of responsibility has on colleagues, friends and the families of those who sacrifice their lives to ensure others enjoy theirs.
On Saturday 14th August I will sacrifice a little of my time, so friends, colleagues and family receive the support they need to continue with the monumental effort it takes to provide the public with this service. I will Row 100,000m on a Concept 2 Indoor Rower, taking around 9-10 hours. For those of you who have been on one, you’ll realise how sore my backside will be!!
All Money raised will go to Rock 2 Recovery Charity to support Veterans and Emergency Services Personnel throughout their career and beyond.
