The Fan Dance 14th May 2022 - Special Forces Test
New to our events calendar is the infamous Fan dance.
The Fan Dance is a 15-mile (24 km) load bearing march that takes place at the end of the first week of the selection course. It is used as the first major indicator of whether a candidate has the physical and mental aptitude to complete the selection.
The candidates climb Pen y Fan's west slope (facing Corn Du) and then descend on the far side, known as Jacob's Ladder. The rest of the route follows the old Roman road before going back on itself for the return leg. Candidates are allowed 4 hours 10 minutes to complete the route regardless of weather.
You will be expertly guided by our Mountain Leaders, and although we will try to keep you within the time limit, we won't just kick you out if you are a little slower!
As with all our events, we will be asking each participant to raise a minimum of £100 to help provide vital funds to keep our services going. It is perfectly acceptable to cover this yourself if you would prefer.
Once you purchase your ticket, we will be in touch about setting up your fundraising page.
This is not for the faint hearted, so if you want to do Pen Y Fan, without the time limit, head over to our Pen Y Fan link.
